On the same day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Raj Kumar Saini questioned the education system in the country and said he felt ashamed to be a politician when he heard the kind of questions asked by children in a college in the state. Saini said that the purpose of launching the portal is to provide a platform to connect children with the “reality of society”. “Is this the education system? How should students learn in this state?” he said. Preetam Gratya was launched by CM Vasundhara Raje on October 2, 2011. Raje’s education minister Vasudev Devnani was then the minister in charge of the education department. It is said that Raje, in 2015, requested that the portal should be discontinued as the BJP was preparing for the state Assembly elections. But, the minister in charge of the department was given one month to show results. On December 16, 2017, Rajasthan’s education minister Vasudev Devnani said: “Bilaspur city college is the oldest college of the state and is our pride. Recently, some students of the college were asked a question in which they were asked to name five states where cows have a place in their life and daily routine. The boys did not get the question right.” First Published: Oct 01, 2018 13:16 IST Table -1: Numbers of cases under Section 309 of Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) in Rajasthan Number of cases under Section 298A of Indian Penal Code (insulting the animal) in Rajasthan Number of cases under Section 301 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent) of IPC in Rajasthan Number of cases under Section 302 (murder)
