For the first time, a total of 15,027 polling stations have been made online so that no voter has to queue up in a large queue to cast their vote.

To increase the participation of women in the upcoming election, polling is being held at 9,426 stations where women are able to vote using the "None Of The Above" (NOTA) button, which would put a stop to the fight between two parties or a candidate to garner votes.

It is to be noted that NOTA option is available in 73 per cent of the 1,98,65,228 polling stations across the five states.

A total of 4,62,79,020 people are expected to vote in the high-stakes elections. The polling will be done through EVMs, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) and manual voting will be held at 18,546 polling stations.

Arrangements:

Nearly 43 per cent polling will be done through EVMs while EVMs will be used in 29 per cent polling stations. VVPATs will be used at 26,650 polling stations.

Polling in the state of Assam is also being held through VVPATs. EVMs will be used at 2,185 polling stations in Meghalaya and paper ballots will be used at 2,083 polling stations in Nagaland.

EVM machines will be used for the first time in Mizoram (907 polling stations), Telangana (8,118 polling stations), Chhattisgarh (2,88,358 polling stations) and Punjab (14,275 polling stations).

Manual voting will also be held at 2,475 polling stations in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 590 polling stations in Arunachal Pradesh and 471 polling stations in Sikkim.

Special provisions have also been made for differently-abled people to exercise their voting rights.

Drones, CCTV cameras will also be used to ensure strict security during the election. CCTV cameras and drones will keep a watch on the entry and exit gates and assembly points of polling stations.

It has also been reported that under the e-voting plan, as many as one crore 80 lakh voters are expected to exercise their voting rights through eight different modes — using the total of 113,877 polling stations in all the states and the union territories.

The use of EVMs comes as a huge relief for the opposition parties as they claimed that it will ensure transparency in the polls and curb booth capturing. Opposition parties had demanded that ballot papers be used in the upcoming elections.

The opposition parties have also alleged that EC's EVM decision is politically motivated to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) away from the next election.

Complete list of polling stations:

A total of 33,703 polling stations have been categorised into 13,257 polling stations being general, 3,647 polling stations being female-only, 5,782 polling stations having no voters and 6,740 polling stations having reserved category voters.

15,027 polling stations have been set up for all the states and the union territories.

Counting:

The results of the elections will be declared on May 16. Counting of votes will take place at 24,635 polling stations spread across the five states.
